- Do you know your Registrar?
Make sure your
contact information is update with your domain registrar.
When you
registered your domain name, you did it with a company called a
registrar. The only
registrar for many years was Network Solutions, but today there
are hundreds of approved registrars.
It is important
for you to know who your registrar is.
You’ll routinely have to pay for upkeep of your domain
name (fees range from $35 to $100 per year for the domain name
alone.) It’s also
important to know who your registrar is because frequently
unscrupulous registrars will contact you asking you to switch
your registrar, much like long distance companies used to do,
which can lead to website and e-mail outages or theft of your
domain name. Additionally,
if you ever want to make a change to your domain name – from
where it is hosted, to who is the contact and who pays the
bills, you will have to work with your registrar.
In addition to
knowing who your registrar is, you also need to make sure that
your administrative and billing contact information is accurate.
If this information is not accurate, the process of
making changes will be complicated – forcing you to go through
a fax routine, or have to submit notarized letters with photos
of Id, and maybe having to contact former employees who left
long ago to help out. This
usually only happens when there is an emergency or when you need
to do things in a hurry, which can lead to prolonged outages as
you negotiate with registrars difficult procedures or search for
former employees.
What you should
do is check NOW to see that the administrative contact and
e-mail address on your domain name is correct.
This is a simple procedure of going to the whois database
and reviewing the resulting information at https://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois

The page you
will get back will tell you who is the contact for your
organization, your addresses, and also who is hosting your
domain

Note that
sometimes you will be directed to check your registrar’s whois
database instead, so just follow the instructions on the
resulting website.
If the
information is not accurate, you’ll need to determine your
registrar and contact them for specific information about how to
go about updating your contact information.

Aspects is here to help, and if you’d like help with this
